Mies van der Rohe Award 2005

Norveg has been nominated to one of Europe's most prestigious architechtural awards - the «Mies van der Rohe Award 2005» is the EU's official architechtural award. The award is named after an architect seen as one of the most influential architects in the 20th century. Mies van der Rohe (1886 - 1969) was a famous German-American architect and designer that among other was the last principle of the Bauhaus School. He was also the mastermind behind the slogan «Less is more», which after a while has become well known in many contexts. This year's prize was won by the Dutch embassy in Berlin.

Norveg's architect is the Icelandic Gudmundur Jonsson. His inspiration has been the old fishing villages in Ytre Namdal, where the boats with their sails lay side by side. The three sails of Norveg represent the old, traditional ship, while the htree store high hull represents the modern ship.

Architect: Gudmundur Jonsson
